Pest....
In contrast to Buda, Pest is
flat, busy and very much the
heartbeat of the city. Due to the speed of its rapid expansion Pest has
always been an exciting place to be.
Rising above
the city landscape is the dome of the magnificent St. Stephen’s
Basilica which is home to the mummified Holy Right Hand of St.
Stephen. A few blocks away is the Parliament, at the time of its
completion in 1902 it was the largest Parliament building in the world and
holds a promenant place in the city on the bank of the Danube.
As with many
great cities Budapest has its own grand Boulevard. Andrássy út is
2.5 km long, on which stands the world famous Opera House. At the
end of this beautiful tree lined avenue appears Heroes’ Square a
monument to the founding fathers of Hungary. Behind this square is the
City Park which gives home to the Zoo, Amusement Park,
the beautiful Széchenyi bath and the world famous Gundel
Restaurant.
